From a Concept to an Image part 1 – Blue Love

From a Concept to an Image part 1 – Blue Love

One of photographic-spiritual-Gurus,Ansel Adams, said that :

Photograph is NOT an accident, it IS a concept

It’s trying to tell us that in order to get good photograph, prepare everything right.
From good preparation we’ll get lesson
Instead of being snappy happy shooters, why don’t we prepare for the worst and get for the better results?
Use your imagination, idea & anything.Put them all together.

Everyone could take good photograph. So do you!

This quote inspired me a long time ago, when I tried to figure out and to answer the question :

“What you gonna to say to the world? What will you want to show?”

Well, this picture above is REALLY not an accident. It’s coming from a concept. Even I sketched on my iPad in order to put any elements that perhaps would mimic the drama, would make WOW factor to the photo.

So you could see here, good photographs which is invoking a mood and emotion would also be prepared. It would also be planned.

It’s a process to get best final results, because you could prepare any elements that you would include to emphasize what you feel and what you gonna to say from your image.

Rain, Blue, love, romantic -are the elements- which were combined to describe how their love unite them. Annika and Julian, the lovely couple was captured in the rainy day in Hamburg. I used strobe SB900 and put behind them with diffuser. A cheap plastic was covering my flash to avoid from damaging due to rain.
I set my camera and dragging the shutter to get the ambient.

I and my camera, also was covered by a cheap plastic. I made a hole through the plastic so that my AFD 35mm f2 Nikon fits to that hole and lens hood made the plastic “glued” to the lens. I — become a strange people on earth, covered by cheap plastic– was trying to capture that moment through viewfinder. You would see how strange I was from this picture below 🙂

Don’t try this at home 😉

Here is the”Behind this scene” on the spot before rain came, and the dark sky just about started.

Another shots with different perspective and angle, with the same lighting setting (see lighting’s diagram above) are shown as below:

And here is the picture when the hard rain was coming covering the couples with spot of light :

Before we come to this photo session I have expected that the rain will come, so that we prepare for this scenario.  But however, there was a time when we got frustrated waiting for the rain (hahahahha it’s strange isn’t it? waiting for the rain )

Blue Mushroom – an old XP’s wallpaper

but I do another backup plan, get inspired of the old wallpaper of windows XP so-called “mushroom in the dark blue” , I planned of this shot and it works so well as you could see below:

How did I set the light?

Here is the set of lighting on the previous shooting.

Instead of using their umbrella as an element, I used my white thru umbrella (which I used as light-diffusor) to mimic the drama.

I put the flash SB900 attached to the umbrella and let Julian Sirapandji hold the umbrella and I triggered the flash off-shoe to lit all the surround area of the umbrella

Hope you guys enjoy this article.
Be creative and being inspired ! 🙂

  11. Benar pak Taufik Askar,..
saya rasa point2 itu bisa berlaku umum utk berbagai kasus kehidupan… 🙂

Tapi memang "creativity is no boundary", menantang diri kita utk "be unique" dalam berkarya, menjadikan "imagination become truly happened"

Akhirnya apa2 yg kita lakukan, baik proses dan hasil akhir, ada lah buah karya yg luar biasa…
